Nintendo 3DS to Drop to $169 Starting August 12, Current Owners Get 20 Free Games
The Nintendo 3DS isn’t doing as well as Nintendo hoped, so around only four months after its release, Nintendo is dropping the price from $249 to $169, starting August 12. If you already purchased a Nintendo 3DS before the price drop, Nintendo will be offering you 20 free games to show their appreciation for your loyalty. Obviously, they can’t offer 20 full 3DS games, so they’re offering 10 NES Virtual Console games on September 1, and 10 Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games (that Nintendo is supposedly not planning on releasing to the general public) sometime before the end of the year.
An $80 price drop is pretty nice for consumers, but it is kind of scary that it is happening only four months after the initial release. You can check out Nintendo’s Q1 earnings report here, if you’re so inclined.
