Nintendo Fans Will Want to Go Register Their User ID, a New Part of Nintendo Accounts
The Nintendo Switch is almost here, and with it are coming some changes to Nintendo’s online services, including the Nintendo Account. The introduction of the Nintendo Account was already an evolution of the Nintendo Network ID, although that old system is still in place, and now gamers will need to register yet another: a new User ID.
This follows after recent reports that the Switch, unlike current and previous Nintendo hardware, won’t lock digital software purchases to a specific piece of hardware, instead registering them to user accounts. It seems complicated at the moment to register a new User ID under an existing account that has only partially taken over for the previous account system, but it’s likely another small step toward a unified, modern account system for Nintendo’s software downloads and online gaming.
To register your User ID under your Nintendo Account, you need to log into your account here, look in your user info for the User ID section, and click the edit button. This will allow you to create your ID, as well as a password for it. With the Nintendo Account system using email addresses for its user identifiers up to now, the addition of the User ID seems like a way to use that account as a full online gaming profile, as well as for everything else, and to begin the slow death of the NNID.
