No Investigation Will Be Made Into Doctor Who’s “Lesbian Kiss” After a Whopping 6 People Complained
I'm gonna go life-saving-breath-pass my boyfriend now.
If you’ve seen the Season 8 premiere “Deep Breath,” you probably remember the scene we’re talking about. As I discussed in our recap, the scene was a huge cheat and a disappointment for fans of married couple, Madame Vastra and Jenny. Actresses Neve McIntosh and Catrin Stewart lock lips, but not for a kiss, for much-needed air for Jenny which Vastra’s lizard-body has an abundance of.
So yes, some fans took issue with it but not for the same reason I did. The Office of Communications (Ofcom) recieved six, yes six, complaints after the episode aired in the UK. The Guardian reports:
A spokeman for Ofcom said: “Ofcom can confirm it received six complaints about a kiss broadcast in an episode of Doctor Who on Saturday 23 August.
“Having assessed the complaints, we can confirm that they do not raise issues warranting further investigation. Our rules do not discriminate between scenes involving opposite sex and same’sex couples.”
So there.
Now let’s all put in inquires as to why the couple didn’t really kiss, considering the amount of kissing that’s gone on in this show in the past few years.
