Sorry, Space Cowboy: No Man’s Sky Delayed Until July (or August)

Sorry, space explorers. No Man’s Sky, the incredibly ambitious procedurally generated space exploration game, has been met with a pretty hefty delay. Originally slated for release in June, it’s now been pushed back to July, or possibly August. This (somewhat rumory) news comes by way of two anonymous GameStop employees who shared the internal update with Kotaku. The update sent to employees asks them to cover up the release date on the promotional posters with a “Coming Soon” sticker.

Neither Sony nor Hello Games, the studio behind the game, have confirmed anything quite yet, but honestly, a delay for this game doesn’t seem too far beyond the realm of reasoning. Consider the fact that it promises a virtually infinite number of planets to explore, each procedurally generated on-the-fly with apparently no loading times; development of a game with such lofty ambitions is bound to run into problems.

Now, whether the game will achieve those goals and deliver has yet to be seen. As many people are advising: remember Molyneux and proceed with caution. I personally remain cautiously hopeful about the game, as everything about it leads me to believe that this is the game of my dreams. Hell, it might very well be the game that gets me to invest in a virtual reality headset.

I guess we’ll find out whether all the hype was worth it when the game finally launches in July (or August).
