No More Adventure Time After Season 9, But The Show Will Inevitably Live On Through Its Cosplayers
I didn’t even know what Adventure Time was until I saw a bunch of cosplayers walking around at a convention a few years ago. It’s easily Cartoon Network’s most successful show, amassing a loyal fanbase over the last six years and making way for others like Steven Universe. But now, it looks like wacky escapades of Finn the Human and Jake the Dog will come to an end…in 2018.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the show’s ninth season will be its last. In a statement, the network announced that its final run will consist of “142 half-hours of content” including new episodes, miniseries, specials, and more.
“Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories,” said creator Pendleton Ward. “We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives, and make a show that was personal to us, and that had jokes too! I’m really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It’s a special thing, I think.”
With the finale being more than a year away, fans will have time to process. But even after it’s done, there’s no doubt you’ll still see pieces of the show popping up at conventions through its many dedicated cosplayers for years to come.
