In a 2021 Plot Twist Twitter Does Something That Everyone Likes and Gets Rid Of That Obnoxious Crop!

When Twitter makes an announcement we all tend to do one of three things: 1) go about our business because it’s not what we want, 2) go about our business because it’s not what we want, and 3) go about our business because it’s not what we want. Sure, I appreciate the extra character count (can you believe it used to be 140?!) and the voice function is fun to play with, but I’ve yet to make a, quote, “Fleet,” and probably never will.

But sometimes, when you least expect it, you’re given something that awakens your third eye, allowing you to transcend time, space, and everything that you’ve perceived as reality.

Yes, I’m being delightfully extra about this announcement regarding the death of the dreaded picture crop. At the same time, it’s not an understatement to say that my ENTIRE Twitter feed spent yesterday posting pictures to test this out. Artists, especially, were delighted at the crop removal since you could now see the entire image without having to click on half a leg, or a forehead, whatever it was that Twitter decided to make the prominent feature.

It wasn’t just artists and cosplayers posting into the wee hours of the evening, damn near every Twitter account made a post.

The way Twitter would crop images is something I’d just come to accept. If I posted something outside of its limitations, I would just have to hope that folks would click to see the full image or hope that the image was cropped at a decent spot in the picture.

But no more!

A moment of silence to all of my past posts that suffered from The Twitter Crop.

And a moment of silence to those who mastered the fine art of “click for a surprise!”

And a moment of silence for the fine art of “I thought this was a wholesome pic but it turns out it’s some booty.”

There is something to be said about the folks who managed to pull those tricks off. We thank you for your service, and I look forward to seeing how you, inevitably, figure out a way to trick the new cropping parameters Twitter has put in place.
