Throw Out Your Fan Theories: No One Has Predicted the End to Avengers: Endgame Yet
Avengers: Endgame is coming, but apparently we don’t have any clue as to what’s happening in the movie—or at least that’s what directors Joe and Anthony Russo are saying. I live in a world of fan theories most days, looking at what everyone thinks will happen in the movie, so to find out that no one is right (about the ending, at least) is both exhausting and exciting. So many theories seemed legit, but … none are right? What are the Russo brothers planning?
In an interview with Jake Hamilton, the Russos opened up about the passionate fans of the MCU and how our dedication to these characters leads to us getting pretty close to figuring out the ending.
“Here’s the thing, the fans are so passionate and they spend such a long time living with these characters, thinking about these characters, and they’re using their imaginations to follow where these stories could possibly go. Sometimes they’re wildly off, sometimes they’re kinda next door to what might happen. … Here’s the thing, nothing’s ever that close. You can get kinda close, but it’s never exactly.”
They went on to express their joy in giving us new and exciting movies, keeping us all on the edge of our seats. Literally. I think I sat on the edge of my seat throughout all of Avengers: Infinity War: “Our mission’s always to surprise people. So we try to make really surprising choices.”
My fear with this statement is that we are heading into a movie we know nothing about. Sure, we have an idea of what is going to happen, but if not one fan theory has the ending correct, we could be watching a complete wipeout of the MCU that we know and love, only to see it rebuild itself with the next “phase.”
Is Captain Marvel the Iron Man equivalent to the new era? Or is the Quantum Realm going to mean we’ll have branching off storylines (much like actual comic series)? We honestly have no idea—clearly, since no one has gotten it right. That being said, would the Russo brothers really admit to someone figuring out their movie anyway?
