Despite a large portion of Russia being extremely cold, Sochi is actually fairly warm in terms of cities that have hosted the Winter Olympics. It’s so warm, in fact, that reporters have even done some sunbathing while attending the games, so here’s how science helps the winter sports get the snow they need, which it turns out is a lot harder than just crushing up some ice.
