Breaking in Germany: bin Laden was Killed by Star Trek Rebels

Just Go With It

Yes, it’s true. A German newscast, scrambling to find something, anything, on the still undisclosed, un described Navy SEAL Team Six, the group of soldiers who raided Osama bin Laden’s Abbottabad compound and ultimately killed the al-Qaeda leader… and they turned up the fan-made logo of a group of rebellious Federation citizens featured most prominently in Star Trek: Deep Space 9. And used it.

Even though it’s got, to name only one feature, bat’leths on it.

The group in question, Maquis, was made up of Federation colonists living in colonies that had suddenly become part of Cardassian space after a peace agreement they they understandably felt was too conciliatory on the part of the Federation. When Cardassian colonists became mysteriously well-armed, Maquis was formed in order to put up an organized resistance and interrupt the covert shipping lines that the Cardassians were using to ship advanced weaponry to their colonists. Because they were violating Federation law, Maquis was named a traitorous, terrorist organization.

So… no, we can’t tell you what that has to do with SEAL Team Six or German television. The newscaster presenting the logo, Mick Locher, seemed to have a connection, though: “they also have the ‘Team Six,’ that carried out the mission. They don’t have the skull in their emblem for nothing.”

Yeah, it’s a Klingon skull, though. And that eagle is riding a phaser. Just be more careful with those Google Image searches next time, guys. Time travel plots can be awfully controversial in the Star Trek fandom.
