Overwatch‘s Bastion Gets All Disney-like in the Forest in New Animated Short
This morning at Gamescom in Cologne, Blizzard unveiled a brand new Overwatch short featuring Bastion, the automated play of the game-stealer camping robot fire button holder sentry droid you love to hate. Blizzard’s really steeped their heroes in a heck of a lot of story and theme, even though these are details you usually whiz past on your way to blow up that McCree seriously can you just stop it it’s not high noon it’s half past nine and I’m sick of your “broken clock is right twice a day” thing can you just not right now.
Ahem.
The short begins with Bastion’s little bird buddy, Ganymede, waking him up after a seemingly long hibernation–he is, after all, covered in forest overgrowth. From there, the clip gets especially Disney-like as he explores the forest with the bird on his way to complete his mission from way back during the game’s major war, the Omnic War. There are more than a few interesting moments in the trailer, including one involving a woodpecker and some very PTSD-like symptoms. As well, because Overwatch seems to just be littered with cross-references, Reinhardt briefly shows up in the background during Bastion’s flashback.
The video’s adorable as all get-out, and is well worth a watch. It’s very much in keeping with the overall vision and story that Blizzard has dreamt up for their cast of heroes.
Plus it’s just gorgeous to look at. As I watched it live, I was snapping screenshots where I could and I just ended up with a bunch of ’em. Take a look:
