We Would Like to See More of Owen Wilson’s Mobius M. Mobius in the MCU
Owen Wilson is an actor who has brought many of us joy for years. You can probably remember your first Owen Wilson movie or the movie that made you fall in love with him. I admit to loving the 1999 film The Haunting at the age of 7. So when he joined the cast of Loki, fans of Wilson’s were excited to see what he would do in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Flash forward to now, and there is a very healthy widespread obsession with Wilson’s Mobius M. Mobius—and we want him to come back in the MCU anywhere and everywhere. Wilson was a major player in season 1 of Loki and the finale set us up to have more of Mobius in season 2 if they want to include him. Happily, the nature of the character and the abilities of the TVA also mean he could, in theory, pop up in many places.
According to ComicBook.com, Wilson was doing a Q&A with Esquire when he was asked what other projects Mobius could find himself in throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Wilson had this to say:
“I couldn’t even speculate – although now that we’ve sort of put that on the table, the whole time element, I guess Agent Mobius could show up anywhere. Even outside the MCU. You might see him if they do a reboot on ‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’ or ‘Back to the Future’. You might see Agent Mobius there. Like if they rent him out maybe.”
Now he’s clearly joking but I would love to see Mobius roll into Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and yell at Bill Preston and Ted Logan for breaking the timeline. That’s just a dream scenario in my mind. But it does show us that Wilson clearly likes this character and is willing to joke about Mobius and the Marvel experience.
It was easy to fall in love with Mobius. At first, he was just trying to do his job by the rules that he thought he knew, but he also wanted to give Loki the benefit of the doubt and, in turn, found someone he could rely on. He stuck to his principles and became perhaps the only person Loki has ever hugged of his own volition. One-third of my favorite potential throuple on television, Mobius had a lot to cope with during Loki, but he was open and willing to hear Loki out—eventually subverting the “company man” standard he’d begun as.
Now, I wish Mobius just smooched everything but that can be for season 2 … or any of the movies that Wilson is willing to drop into as the agent. With the multiverse expanding, it would appear that Mobius’ role has changed yet again, and there’s still a lot that could be done with him.
The future for Mobius is a bit in the air. When Sylvie killed He Who Remains, she set the multiversal war in motion and it shifted the tides of the TVA. Loki runs to Mobius, hoping he can join him and help only to discover that Mobius doesn’t remember him and the TVA he walked into is completely different from the one he’d been dealing with. And since this Mobius seems to work for Jonathan Majors’ Kang, who knows where he could turn up?
Hopefully, we’ll get to see Mobius remember or reforge his relationship with Loki in season 2, but at least we know that Owen Wilson is happy to be in any movie as Mobius M. Mobius.
