The Lonely Island Producing an All-Female Sketch Comedy Show for FOX

Recommended Videos

We love it when guys use their powers for good and not evil. When it comes to late-night sketch comedy, opportunities are few and far between for women, and even less so for women of color, which is why it was so awesome to hear about The Lonely Island’s upcoming sketch comedy show for FOX called Party Over Here.

Party Over Here will be produced by the gentlemen of The Lonely Island – Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone – but it will star a trio of hilarious and experienced female performers: Jessica McKenna, Nicole Byer and Alison Rich (from l-r above). Even better, according to The Comic’s Comic, the writing staff for the show will be majority women: Heather Anne Campbell, Lauren McGuire, Ryan Perez, Yamara Taylor and Nick Wiger.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox entertainment President David Madden said:

The late-night landscape is wildly competitive, and we thought long and hard about the kind of audacious, attention-getting voices we needed. Andy, Akiva, Jorma, Paul and our three stars — Nicole, Jessica and Alison — are the ideal group of talent to do just that. They’re fearless, original and, of course, very, very funny.

And in a statement released by The Lonely Island, they say:

When we first conceived this idea, we thought of it as a spinoff of Empire. We failed miserably … now it’s much more of a sketch comedy show. In an age where most Millennials don’t even know what a TV is, we are really excited to be getting into the TV business.

Indeed. We can’t wait to see what these ladies bring to the late-night sketch comedy table. Look out, SNL. There’s a new Saturday night comedy joint that’s looking to rough your shit up!

Party Over Here premieres Saturday, March 12, 2016, on FOX. Will you be watching?
