Scandal and Sherlock Director Takes On Luke Cage

Recommended Videos

I finally finished season two of Daredevil in the wee hours this morning, so I got to see what everyone was talking about–the first trailer for Luke Cage that was stealthily tacked on after the finale. (As of right now, you can still only officially watch it on Netflix–although people have been finding ways to leak it online.)

And now there’s been a bit more official news that we can reveal! Paul McGuigan, who directed films like Lucky Number Slevin and Push as well as the pilot episode of Scandal and several episodes of BBC’s Sherlock, tweeted yesterday that he also directed the first two episodes of Luke Cage!

If you haven’t fully watched season two of Daredevil yet, I won’t spoil it for you–but one of the neat things about these standalone Netflix shows is that they continue to bring in more scenes with characters who are crossing over between shows. No doubt this is a clear move to make the transition to the final Defenders series (which will star Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist) feel even more natural.

We already know Claire Temple, a character who was introduced in Daredevil and cameoed briefly in Jessica Jones, will play a big role in Luke Cage–and there’s another neat cameo you’ll be able to spot in the Daredevil finale that occurs pretty early on.

Between the Luke Cage trailer, this bit of directing news that’s just emerged and the way these shows are starting to subtly overlap, my excitement for the Defenders series is only increasing–not to mention I can’t WAIT for Luke Cage! What are your thoughts on this news?
