Penguin Goes All Toddlers & Tiaras For Their 50th Anniversary Cover of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
"Oh, it can't be that ba–Oh. Oh God. Wh—what is that? GET IT AWAY!"
So many things wrong with the new “Penguin Modern Classic” cover for Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Like: Who even is that? Is that Veruca Salt? This cover has nothing to do with what the book is.
And, even more unsettlingly: Penguin describes this cover image as one that “looks at the children at the centre of the story, and highlights the way Roald Dahl’s writing manages to embrace both the light and the dark aspects of life.” Totally agree that Dahl wasn’t all happiness and rainbows, but it one of the “dark” aspects of life he writes about sexualized little girls?
What the hell, Penguin?!
