Penny Dreadful Season Two Is Magically Turning Dublin Into A Winter Horrorland
I'm expecting some of Wordsworth's "The Brothers," judging by these shots.
Hey #PennyDreadfuls! Today’s set: who’s buried here? You scared your favourite character dies? @SHO_PR @skyatlantic pic.twitter.com/zrw6h2B3An

Penny Dreadful is skulking back through the darkness of Victorian London to our screens for season two, and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Shooting on the new season started last week, and various crew members have been tweeting photos to either mitigate or worsen the waiting pain, depending on what kind of person you are. I need more weird sex and Eva Green in my life, stat.
Supervising producer Christopher King tweeted the following photos over the course of the last week:
Hey #Dreadfuls…and so it begins. First shot of @SHO_Penny Season 2!!! Here we go @SHO_PR @skyatlantic pic.twitter.com/Je8FJXLR5O — Christopher King (@chriswking) September 11, 2014

Fake snow in the middle of summer in an actual cemetery is pretty metal, even for Penny Dreadful. Director James Cooper (who is also responsible for fantastic Doctor Who episodes “The Doctor Dances/The Empty Child,” “The Christmas Invasion,” “New Earth,” and “School Reunion”) has also been teasing fans through social media.

Gravesites in winter = eerily beautiful. Just like #PennyDreadful . pic.twitter.com/ro7Rkpp7Z2 — James Cooper (@dotcoops) September 24, 2014
Covent Garden, in Dublin. But who’s sitting there concealed by the makeup & costume team? #pennydreadful @SHO_PR pic.twitter.com/pSG8qgSmbF

Now who’s lurking underground…? #PennyDreadful pic.twitter.com/MaLlnfT9wT — James Hawes (@JamesEHawes) September 26, 2014
Who are all these mysterious figures? Why must Penny Dreadful already be embroiling me in its strangeness? One thing is for sure; we’re going to be seeing more of Rory Kinnear’s Nice Guy Caliban, as make-up artist Sarita Allison has been tweeting about his SFX prosthetics. I imagine we’ll also be seeing some interesting looks on Billie Piper’s Brona this season, as well.

If you head over to The Daily Mail, they’ve also got some gorgeous shots of Eva Green doing her demon-possession thing while rocking an amazing Victorian overcoat in the fake snow. This Irish gossip blog also has some behind-the-scenes snaps taken by fans milling around the location shoot.
Personally, I’m hoping for a lot more Helen McCrory and some serious wolfman episodes. What do you hope to see in the second season of Penny Dreadful? Let us know in the comments!
- Patti LuPone is going to be in the second season of PD
- A PD director is working with Sophie Turner in a Mary Shelley movie
- Awesome PD exclusives from SDCC
