Pinterest Has Porn Clones. Unrelated, 97% of Pinterest’s Facebook Fans are Women
If you haven’t been following the world of social networks, the new obsession in Internet town, Pinterest, is garnering a lot of attention as of late, mainly for two reasons: Growing so quickly, and being largely inhabited by females. Aside from bothering female redditors, a part of Pinterest’s pet name being thrown around the Internet, “reddit for women,” seems like it could actually be extremely accurate. According to AppData, over 97% of Pinterest’s Facebook fans are women. Unrelated (probably?) to that statistic, Pinterest already has a couple porn clones.
Founded by three men, Pinterest does seem to be targeting the female demographic more than it isn’t. The network’s About page describes the social network as a place for people to “plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes,” which are things stereotypically aligned with women’s interests. So, it’d make sense that women flock to the social network more than men, especially considering females are more into social networking in general.
Browsing over to Pinterest for the first time, the top five pins that appear without even scrolling down the page are decorative ice cubes, glitter-painted toenails, a snarky phrase about how women know if people are lying because they already know the truth, a tasteful log cabin, and a box of heart candies and peanut butter cups in the shape of a pink Valentine’s Day iPod. Again, without even scrolling down, each comment that appears on these pins (on the front page) are from female names attached to female profile pictures. So, it would seem that the Facebook fan data is a good gauge of who composes Pinterest’s over 10 million strong user base.
On an unrelated note, Pinterest already has some porn clones out in the Internet wilds. Snatchly (immediate NSFW link) mimics the Pinterest layout, a page almost too busy for the eyes filled with pinboards — they just happen to be porn pins instead of glitter-painted toenails. And yes, instead of “pinning it,” users “snatch it.” Another Pinterest porn clone, the better-titled Pornterest (again, immediate NSFW link), is similarly laid out, mimicking the busy Pinterest layout. If you’re wondering which Pinterest porn clone seems to be the better choice, Snatchly has categories, whereas Pornterest doesn’t seem to be anything more than pins (at least without creating an account and logging in, as I am wont to do).
So, Pinterest, gals, am I right?
