Disney Hires Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Writer For Pirates of the Caribbean 5

I’m one of those people who thinks the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise should have ended a while ago but seeing as how they are cash cows at the international box office, they’re still being churned out. The most recent news on that front is a writer has been chosen for Pirates 5. His credits include Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull and Speed 2: Cruise Control. 

Jeff Nathanson is the lucky writer. For the record, he also wrote Catch Me If You Can, which I thought was a good film but with those other two credits on his resume, my hopes aren’t high. (He also did Rush Hour 2 and 3.)

The last oceanic outing, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, made over $1 billion dollars worldwide so there’s no question as to why they’d make a fifth film. Johnny Depp’s cohorts Kiera Knightly and Orlando Bloom didn’t return for the last one although Geoffrey Rush did. Penélope Cruz, Ian McShane, and Sam Claflin were added to the cast.

No word yet on who will make up the team for Pirates 5, Depp hasn’t even officially signed on yet, but Claflin is going to be busy for a while with Hunger Games shoots. I think it’s safe to say it won’t happen without Depp though.
