This Week, Pokémon GO Finally Adds All Gen 2 Pokémon, New Gameplay Mechanics and Items

Yay! A distraction!

Pokémon GO‘s initial introduction of a few of the Pokémon from the Gold/Silver game generation was limited to babies that players could hatch from eggs, but a full round of brand new Pokémon is finally on the way, and it looks like they’ll arrive holding some other new goodies for us.

The new wave of ‘mon will arrive later this week according to Niantic’s official announcement, and it’ll feature more than 80 new Pokémon. Fans of the series know that also means some Pokémon found in the first wave of Pokémon GO will be able to evolve into new forms, which also means the introduction of some new evolution items that players will be able to collect from Pokéstops.

There will also be new berry items, which will give players the capability to slow Pokémon down while attempting to catch them, as well as doubling the candy reward for a successful catch attempt. You’ll also be able to select these items directly from the encounter screen instead of opening up your menu, which should prove helpful, as the announcement teases that Pokémon will have new behaviors that will affect the catching process.

On top of all that, player avatars are getting a whole new set of wardrobe options beyond the limited selection introduced at the game’s launch. Sadly, there’s no news on requested features like trading or direct, player vs. player battling, nor is there any indication of my personal most-wanted feature: limiting gyms to one instance of any specific Pokémon so that we get some variety instead of fighting four Dragonites in a row.
