Pokémon GO Halloween Promotion Will Fix Buddy Pokémon for a Week & Add More Ghosts

Treat. Definitely treat.

Still trying to land yourself a Gengar or Hypno in Pokémon GO—or any other Pokémon, for that matter? The holiday of spookiness and candy is bringing an extra dose of both to your gameplay for a week!

From October 26 (Wednesday) through November 1, Niantic is increasing the spawn rates of the Zubat, Haunter, and Drowzee evolution lines, as well as increasing your in-game candy haul across the board. Events like this—although seemingly even more focused—were teased in the game’s original trailer, but this is the first one we’ve actually seen in the wild.

With kids (and adults) no doubt traipsing all over their neighborhoods on October 31, it’s the perfect time to bring a little bit of attention back to the location-based game by handing out some extra candy—if the servers don’t break. For the week of the promotion, all candy bonuses from capturing and transferring Pokémon will be doubled (so make sure to save any you would normally transfer until the promotion starts), while buddy Pokémon will earn four times their normal amount of candy, according to Niantic’s announcement. That means you only have to walk 75 kilometers to evolve your Charmeleon instead of 300! Totally doable in a week, right?

Overall, the buddy Pokémon system is a bit stingy with its candy—though that’s probably just to make sure it doesn’t supersede the primary methods of evolving Pokémon—so this week-long change should feel pretty satisfying. Plus, there’s no stomachache from consuming all the candy the moment you get home! Win-win!
