Pokémon GO Servers Struggling to Keep up With Our Creature-Filled Escapism

Due to events in the real world today, everything is terrible, and we’re all flocking to Pokémon GO to change that world into something a little more magical, adorable, and fun. Reality has to set in on that in some regard, too, as the servers for the game are experiencing difficulty keeping up with how much we all want a break from our crappy reality.

It’s no surprise that Pokémon GO is having server trouble with all the demand its seeing in its top spot among the App Store’s free games. (Yes, I’ve already covered this game once today, but nothing else good is happening. Just let me have this.) Not everyone is experiencing issues, but for those who are, it’s probably a tedious repeat of yesterday—speaking from experience here, since it’s down for me—when everyone knew the game was coming but didn’t know when it’d be available in their specific region of the world. Now, we must wait for the congestion to clear.

Server overload isn’t the only issue players are experiencing, either. Niantic, who developed the game in conjunction with Nintendo, has acknowledged the problem on their site, which also mentions other known issues players may run into, like battery life trouble or item glitches. They’re working on fixes, so sit tight or try some of the suggested solutions if you’re having any of the listed problems. Rumors have also floated around that there’s a glitch where players return to the game to find their previous progress lost, but that’s unconfirmed by Niantic. If it’s true, perhaps it has something to do with the server issues and will work itself out as demand slows down and the problem is worked out.

I hope it’s fixed soon, because the world desperately needs something bright and cheerful right now.
