The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Announcement Was So Powerful That Kingdom Hearts Was Trending Alongside It. Wait, What?

That duck looks familiar...

If you’re like me, you’re still busy running away from wild Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Apparently, we have until late 2022 to get things situated in the Hisui Region before the next generation of Pokémon arrives.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are set to release sometime this year, an announcement made in celebration of the 26th anniversary of Pokémon. “Trainers will once again embark on an epic journey of discovery and exploration,” said Tsunekazu Ishihara, president, and CEO of The Pokémon Company. “Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will be an adventure unlike any other, and I cannot wait to share this incredible experience with all of you.”

As fans attempted to decide between Fluffy, Doofy, and Quackers, another game began trending alongside the announcement: Kingdom Hearts.

It’s nice to see Donald Duck still getting work after Kingdom Hearts

The conversation about how to pick your first Pokémon is a serious one. Do you decide based on skill? Do you wait until you see what the evolved form looks like? Or do you do it the way I did Arceus and pick the one you think is cutest?

I honestly don’t see how Pokémon fans go through this every generation. It took me forever to decide between Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott. I swear I had my heart set on Rowlet before I got a good look at Oshawott, also, I’m partial to water creatures.

This time around, it’s going to be even harder if you’re a Kingdom Hearts fan.

Part of the fun of getting new starters is coming together to talk about who they look like.

While the similarities for Sprigatito (the Grass Cat Pokémon) and Fuecoco (the Fire Croc Pokémon) tended to vary, Quaxly (the Duckling Pokémon) was often compared to Donald Duck himself – particularly his dabblings with magic in Kingdom Hearts.

It’s easy to make the comparison, especially with that hat Quaxly’s wearing… or is that hair? It’s probably hair, right? And will get some kind of gnarly transformation when it evolves into its next form. All we know about the good duck so far is that it’s “earnest” and “tidy,” so probably not as temperamental as Donald.

I suppose that can change depending on how its evolution goes.

Not the first time Kingdom Hearts has trended alongside a Nintendo game

Seeing Kingdom Hearts trend along with Nintendo game news is nothing new if you’re a part of the Smash Bros. community. For a while, the franchise would trend with every single Smash Bros. character announcement in the hopes of Sora joining the fray. In October 2021, fans finally got what they’d been asking for… minus Donald and Goofy.

Perhaps this is Nintendo’s way of rectifying the situation?

We can just pretend like our trainer is Sora, right? We just need a Pokémon who bears some kind of resemblance to Goofy and we’ll be all set.

Jokes aside, which starter are you going to pick, more importantly, what other fictional character does your starter of choice look like? I was leaning toward “Weed Cat” and the Among Us lizard, but all the comparisons to Donald got me excited about the duck.

Clearly, the solution is to write their names on a piece of paper and draw them from that hat on Quaxly’s head… or hair? Seriously, which is it?
