From Up On Poppy Hill the Latest English Release from Studio Ghibli

Just Go With It

Recommended Videos

Set in 20th century Japan shortly after World War II, From Up on Poppy Hill is based on the manga of (roughly) the same name, a peaceful coming of age/romance where a push for the new in anticipation of the 1964 Olympics lies in conflict with remembrance of the old. In other words, maybe something to watch after Grave of the Fireflies, when you feel like nothing will ever be okay ever again. The English voice cast includes folks like Ron Howard, Gillian Anderson, and Christina Hendricks.

Susana Polo thought she'd get her Creative Writing degree from Oberlin, work a crap job, and fake it until she made it into comics. Instead she stumbled into a great job: founding and running this very website (she's Editor at Large now, very fancy). She's spoken at events like Geek Girl Con, New York Comic Con, and Comic Book City Con, wants to get a Batwoman tattoo and write a graphic novel, and one of her canine teeth is in backwards.
