NBC’s Powerless Just Lost Its Creator and Showrunner, Ben Queen
Remember Powerless? That NBC comedy that’s supposed to be set in the DC Comics universe but focus on the people without superhero abilities? Well, the show doesn’t premiere until the midseason, but it’s already seen one major change.
Creator Ben Queen, who also acted as showrunner and executive producer, has left the series. According to Deadline, this was a mutual decision between him, NBC and Warner Bros TV over creative differences. They haven’t found a replacement yet, but there’s still time to search before hitting the panic button, as the series doesn’t head to TV until next year.
The half-hour comedy stars Vanessa Hudgens as a dedicated insurance adjuster working on coverage for the regular folks affected by the damage caused by those darn crime fighting crusaders. Per ScreenCrush, Firefly alum Alan Tudyk will play Del, “a power-mad disastrous dictator of a boss” who also happens to be company owner’s son. Community’s Danny Pudi will play Teddy, the office prankster and Emily’s best work friend. Christina Kirk will play Jackie, resident superhero fanatic and Del’s assistant.
Much like Marvel’s Damage Control, this marks DC’s first foray into TV comedy. If we’re to go by what Tudyk said at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, expect to appearances from Jack O’Lantern, Crimson Fox and more when the show finally arrives on air.
It’s too early tell (we don’t even have a proper trailer yet) but color me intrigued.
