Disney’s Princess Moana Finds Her Voice in Auli’i Cravalho
We’ve been really excited about Disney’s upcoming Moana, which will feature the Mouse House’s first Polynesian princess. Well, the film’s protagonist now has a voice!
14-year-old Auli’i Cravalho has won the titular role in this history-making film, and she’s understandably over the moon! In an interview with People, Cravalho says:
Moana is such an amazing character. She’s brave, she is so empowered, she knows what she wants and she’s not afraid to get it, and I think that’s something that I can relate to as well. I just love watching how she goes along in this wonderful movie and grows as a person and helps her culture along the way.
Cravalho is a Native Hawaiian from Oahu, and lives with her mother, Puanani, in the town of Mililani. She’s also a soprano who participates in her school’s glee club…when she’s not landing lead roles with Disney, that is.
And of course she, like any sane person would be, is excited to be working with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who is half Polynesian and will be voicing the role of Maui in the film. She says, “I am very excited about that, my gosh. I’ve never heard him sing before so it’s going to be really interesting!” It’s going to be interesting for all of us, Auli’i.
Moana comes out on November 23, 2016.
