Whether it’s the Apple Newtons that were used early on in the X-Files or the delicious Reese’s Pieces devoured by E.T., geeky media is no stranger to product placement. Maybe it’s because the culture has such an affinity for toys and consumer goods in general, but whatever the reason, there has been a lot of it over the years. However, where it started and how successful it is aren’t as well known. Fortunately, there’s an infographic for that.
