Queen of Katwe Clip: Alicia Keys Is Here To Inspire You With Her Song “Given a Chance”
Alicia Keys is using her voice to inspire others in a new Queen of Katwe clip. The short behind the scenes clip shows her recording the song “Given a Chance,” which encompasses exactly what the movie is about. “We all are looking for an opportunity. And if given an opportunity, especially young women in the world, you see what becomes of it. Everything changes,” she says in the video.
The story centers on the uplifting true story of 10-year-old Phiona Mutesi who lives with her family in the slum of Katwe in Kampala, Uganda whose destiny changes when she meets Robert Katende (David Oyelowo), a former soccer player turned missionary who teaches the local kids to play chess. Phiona quickly picks up the game and, after advancing through local tournaments, realizes she has the opportunity to lift her family out of poverty.
Lupita Nyong’o, who plays Phiona’s mother in the film, previously explained why she felt like this story is important to tell. “It’s a lesson that we ought to learn again and again, that where you’re from is not necessarily where you belong,” she told The Mary Sue in an interview.
Queen of Katwe is now available on HD Digital and Blu-ray.
