Rape Jokes in the Military? How About No?
[Trigger Warning] Brian Adam Jones is the editor-in-chief of Task & Purpose. He also happens to be a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. In a piece on the site, he delves into the serious issue of misogyny in the military, particularly taking form on Facebook. Like many instances of online harassment we’ve seen in the past, the examples Jones lays out aren’t that surprising until you consider active members of the military are posting them under their real names.
It’s interesting timing considering I recently witnessed a cosplayer friend of mine being harassed by a member of the military on Facebook. The individual not only made threats against her but threatened to kill others. She informed his base.
This shouldn’t be happening anywhere of course, but how does it make you feel that this behavior is rampant in the military?
