If you’re not familiar with Ahsoka Tano, the title character in the upcoming Disney+ series, Ahsoka, here’s the deal. The Togruta former Padawan of Anakin Skywalker has been featured in several Star Wars shows and movies, but first appeared in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Ahsoka was a Jedi apprentice who fought alongside Anakin (before he became Darth Vader) and eventually became a full-fledged Jedi. However, she was framed and falsely accused of blowing up the Jedi Temple, and she lost faith in the Jedi Council, leaving to set her own path. She eventually joined the Rebellion, and even had a heart-wrenching battle with Darth Vader, before being rescued by Ezra Bridger (who is rumored to appear in the new Ahsoka series). She was most recently portrayed (in live-action form) by Rosario Dawson in The Mandalorian.

What we know so far about the new series

When an alleged casting breakdown was released, the logline for the new show described Ahsoka’s plot like this:

“Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) is on the hunt for the evil Grand Admiral Thrawn in the hope it will help her locate the missing Ezra Bridger, the young Jedi that disappeared with Thrawn many years ago. Based on characters from the “Star Wars” franchise. A spinoff of the TV series “The Mandalorian.”

The series is set five years after The Return of the Jedi and most likely within the same timeline of events as The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett (plus or minus some flashbacks). Hayden Christensen is set to return to the role of Darth Vader for the series, along with several of the Empire’s inquisitors. But it remains to be seen how he will feature in the series, considering he sacrificed himself at the end of Return, so most likely he will be present in flashbacks or as a hologram.

Alongside Dawson and Christensen, actors Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ray Stevenson, and Ivanna Sakhno have also officially joined the cast. Natasha Liu Bordizzo will also be joining the series as fan-favorite character Sabine Wren from Star Wars: Rebels.

When will it be released?

Unfortunately, there is no release date set for the Disney+ show as of yet. Production began in April of 2022, which means that at the earliest, Ahsoka will most likely not be coming to our screens until the end of 2023. However, stay tuned for updates and more information! You never know what might be revealed at the upcoming annual Star Wars Celebration in May.
