Josie and the Pussycats Perform a Glamorous “Sugar, Sugar” Cover in New Riverdale Clip
If you caught the TMS recap of episode 1 of Riverdale, you’ll know how much we love Ashleigh Murray, Asha Bromfield, and Hayley Law as Josie and the Pussycats in this teen drama adaptation of the Archie comics. They had a great performance of Cyndi Lauper’s “All Through the Night” at the school dance, and I’m glad to see we’ll be getting lots of musical numbers in the future.
The Archie Comics Youtube account uploaded the band’s rendition of the classic tune “Sugar, Sugar” alongside a cheerleader performance were you can see Betty, Veronica, and Cheryl showing off their moves. Don’t miss Robin Givens as the mayor of Riverdale and mother of Josie either!
The performance will air on episode 2 of Riverdale, which you can watch 9 pm on Thursday, February 2nd. I only hope that there’s a scene following this of Josie and the Pussycats asking Cheryl Blossom what business she had being up on stage and singing. Like, girl. Don’t get me wrong, Madelaine Petsch sounds great–but after hearing Josie’s protectiveness over her band in the pilot and considering how Cheryl’s supposed to be a bully it feels a bit odd.
