Robert Pattinson Says He Secretly Responds to ‘The Batman’ Critics on Twitter

Robert Pattinson as Batman in the Batman

Robert Pattinson is no stranger to people being mean about him on the internet. It started back with his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise and carried on through the rest of his career, but with his press tour for The Batman, it seems as if Pattinson has admitted to fighting back a bit against those who constantly tear him down—if he’s not just making things up to tease us again.

Famously, Robert Pattinson lies, but this was a moment with the rest of the cast of The Batman, so maybe he’s telling the truth—and really, I’d like to think that Robert Pattinson just sits on Twitter telling people to leave him alone. In a “fan theories” video for Variety, the cast joined together to look at what the internet was thinking about The Batman and, in doing so, had Pattinson reveal that sometimes the insults just push him a bit too far.

“Sometimes I just get pushed a little far and I have to respond something,” he said. “So, when sometimes you just see a quite abstract message going like, ‘Just please, just leave me alone,’ that’s me [laughs]. ‘Stop picking faults. I’m doing my best.’ [laughs].”

It’s funny watching the cast react to some of these theories (especially having seen the movie), but what was great was the entire cast making fun of director Matt Reeves for his love of the Dark Knight, as well as … the 2002 movie Scooby Doo?

The Waynes saw Scooby Doo (2002)

In the Batman comics and in some of the live-action adaptations, the Wayne family goes to see The Legend of Zorro or something about the masked swordsman on their fateful night. With the notable exception of the Christopher Nolan movies, Thomas and Martha Wayne are typically killed outside of a movie theater. The problem with The Batman is that there was no Zorro movie in 2002, when the Waynes were probably murdered given Bruce’s age and the time in which the movie is set.

So yes, sure, the Waynes could have gone to a showing of an older Zorro movie somewhere or it could have been a different movie entirely, especially since we don’t see Thomas and Martha Wayne die in The Batman (thank god)—but the fan theory that the cast reads is that the movie Thomas, Martha, and Bruce all go to is Scooby Doo. You know, the live-action movie starring Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar where an animated Scooby Doo hangs out with Matthew Lillard’s Shaggy the entire time, a staple of the millennial upbringing.

So, given that Bruce Wayne is a millennial in the Reeves movie and that he’s a detective, we have to assume that the Waynes took him to see the Scooby Doo movie where Linda Cardellini brought us the hottest version of Velma yet. Also, it turned me into a Scrappy Doo apologist, so I hope that Bruce likes him, too.

Now, it’s not made clear by the cast or in The Batman whether or not Bruce and his parents went to see Scooby Doo before their death, but we can hope? Or maybe Robert Pattinson can reply to us on Twitter and let us know.
