Fan Petition to Memorialize Robin Williams With World of Warcraft NPC Succeeds
*Standing on desk.*
We’ve all been dealing with the passing of Robin Williams in our own way, and for World of Warcraft players, that way was to create a petition to have him honored in the video game he loved. Only a short while later, they’ve already gotten an answer.
Jacob Holgate, who started the petition that has reached over 10,000 signatures in 24 hours, currently sits at 19,000 Facebook likes, and has already been declared a success, wrote of wanting an in-game memorial for Williams:
Robin Williams was not only an excellent comedian but also a game enthusiast, he said that he enjoys Warcraft III very much in an interview a few years ago, and was even apart of the mmorpg World of Warcraft. It was reported that Robin used to play on the Mannoroth server, and was something of a troll in trade on good days or when anonymity allowed. Mr. Williams said in interviews that he took his World of Warcraft characters very serious – in fact he was well known for being an extreme PC builder who preferred to build his own overclocked and super-cooled systems. He often joked about his WoW addiction but also about the reactions he’d get from other gamers when he admits he plays the game. Because of his presence within our community, we the players of World of Warcraft are asking Blizzard to kindly create an NPC within the game that memorializes the actor/comedian. Many have expressed a wish to this character perform some of Williams best jokes within the Worlds End Tavern, so that he may continue making us smile long after his passing.
I bet Robin Williams was the best damn WoW troll there ever was. The petition was brought to the attention of WoW technical designer Chadd Nervig and a few other Blizzard staffers on Twitter—or, well, it actually looked more like it already had their attention:
@Dakirokos @mumper @CM_Lore @DaveKosak @davhave Yes. We’re taking care of it.

So, you can rest easy knowing that Blizzard will seize the day on this one and make sure there’s always somewhere we can go to visit Robin Williams. That is, in addition to Neverland and all the other fictional places he will live forever in our hearts.

- He and his daughter Zelda appeared in a Zelda commercial
- Actually, they were in more than one, and this one’s even better
