Japan’s Yaskawa Electric Corporation Teaches Manufacturing Robot How To Use Katana, We’re All Doomed
This was NEVER a good idea.
In a promotion to show off their new manufacturing arms, Yaskawa Electric Corporation in Japan decided to give one of their new arms a katana, then taught it to mimic martial artist Isao Machii’s movements. Yes. This will go well.
Did Japan just, like, stop watching sci-fi movies? Imagine the pitch meeting for this idea.
Suit 1: We need to promote our new line of manufacturing arms.
Suit 2: We could just have it build cool things?
Suit 1: No, no, no. The kids would never like that.
Suit 2: What do they like? Swords? Robots? Eating healthy?
Suit 1: YES THAT’S IT!
Suit 2: Eating health–
Suit 1: NO, SWORDS. Let’s give it a freakin’ sword, man.
Jokes aside, it looks really rad, and the precision the arm has is absolutely fantastic. It’s a great video, one you should definitely check out, if only for the incredibly dramatic soundtrack.
