Suddenly: Season One of Rocko’s Modern Life on DVD
It is a gift!
Straight from the horse’s mouth (or Shout! Factory’s mouth, anyway): Nickelodeon will release a DVD set of season one of Rocko’s Modern Life on June 21st. The press release describes the show thusly:
Over the course of its four-season run on Nickelodeon, the series garnered a Daytime Emmy® Award and an Environmental Media Award. Brimming with anthropomorphic social satire and offbeat humor, Rocko’s Modern Life follows the misadventures of Australian wallaby named Rocko, who encounters various dilemmas and situations regarding otherwise mundane aspects of life. His best friend, Heffer, is a fat and enthusiastic cow, while his other friend, Filburt, is an easily upset turtle who often feels uncomfortable or disturbed. Ed Bighead lives next door to Rocko and detests him. These folks live in a bizarre district known as O-Town, and most of the episodes revolve around Rocko trying to cope with the absurdities and dilemmas he encounters in life.
I think it’s safe to say that we all remembered it at the time for how gross it was and now for how much incredibly adult humor they managed to pack into the show.
Unlike some of their other cartoon releases (I’m looking at you The Angry Beavers), this DVD set will include every episode from the season. At a glance at Wikipedia, that includes the one where Heffer almost dies eating at Chokey Chicken, the one with the vacuum cleaner, the Laundry Day episode, and the one where Mrs. Bighead tries to seduce Rocko after not getting enough attention from Mr. Bighead which I totally remember even though Nickelodeon banned after one airing.
I will now embed the theme song, as a convenience for all those who were about to go looking for it:
