Streisand Effect in Action: Rogue NASA Account Joins Ranks of Resistance Twitter

Recommended Videos

As the old saying goes, the revolution will not be televised. It seems, though, that the resistance may very well be tweeted.

That much can be said for the beginnings, at least. Joining the National Parks Twitter accounts tweeting in defiance of the White House’s attacks on climate change science, there is now a rogue NASA account among their ranks. It describes itself as the “The unofficial ‘Resistance’ team of NASA. Not an official NASA account.”

Regardless, it’s tweeting some serious truths that this administration seems hell bent on censoring.

And, just like every other National Park rogue Twitter account, they’re trying to spread the word about the March for Science that’s currently in its planning stages.

This morning, they tweeted about handing over the account to people who aren’t government employees. While there’s no way to know one way or another whether the people who started the account are employees at NASA or not, what’s clear is that government employees are absolutely living in fear about what may happen to themselves under this administration. It’s one thing (an undoubtedly tragic thing, mind you) to lose your job for tweeting scientific facts, but it’s a whole different story when the censoring of those facts can lead to the literal end of the world.

So I guess to sum it up: it’s 2017, and standing at the front of much of the resistance in the public eye are Teen Vogue, rogue Twitter accounts created by the Streisand Effect, and a member of the Black Bloc who punched a Nazi.
