A New Rumor Suggests Tom Hiddleston Will Narrate the Loki TV Show For Disney+ Rather Than Star In It

Fan favorite Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, stole the Internet’s heart with his turn as Marvel’s trickster villain turned sort-of antihero, so it makes sense that he would be one of the first Marvel characters to get their own live-action series on Disney’s upcoming streaming service, Disney+.

Details of the series have been kept mostly under wraps (though Hiddleston’s involvement was previously confirmed), but new leaks suggest that Hiddleston’s take on the character might serve as more of a narrator, with a younger actor also taking on the mantle.

Charles Murphy of The Hashtag Show is reporting on a rumor that Hiddleston will narrate the show, with a different actor playing Loki as well.

If this is the case, this explains where the series might fit in the timeline. We’ll get to see Loki’s life before the first Thor movie, since most of his post-Thor time is accounted for. A series focused on a teenaged Loki would be able to bring in new actors, as well as popular comics iterations of the character such as Kid Loki and Lady Loki.

Fans have long wanted to see these versions of the character onscreen, and this show would allow the character’s multifaceted existence to really come to life. If they made the whole thing Lady Loki, I would certainly not complain.

While money might not be a problem for the show, this also solves the problem of how to include Thor. A Loki story that’s missing Thor would be the same as a Thor story without Loki: probably okay, but better with both. Chris Hemsworth might not be ready to buckle down and shoot a lengthy series, so a younger take on Thor would allow the character to be present in the series without needing the big-name star.

If Hiddleston narrated the adventures of a younger Lok, this also possibly solves the timeline problem presented by the show. Loki is killed in the opening minutes of Avengers: Infinity War, and the manner of his death doesn’t leave itself necessarily open to resurrections (though if Marvel pulls something out of their hat, I won’t complain). Loki narrating his life as he lurks about the afterlife, with How I Met Your Mother-esque cuts to Hiddleston’s Loki working his way through whatever trials await him, could be a great spin. Just because the show might focus on another period in Loki’s life doesn’t mean we’d never see Hiddleston’s Loki at all.

It’s important to note that this is a rumor that seems almost designed to cause mayhem in fandom. Some Loki fans are happy with the possibility of seeing Kid Loki or Lady Loki, while others want to see more Hiddleston and are up in arms. Murphy presents no links or evidence, so he could very well be passing on the unsubstantiated rumors and creating a sort of echo chamber of speculation. Still, it presents an interesting angle for the Loki show. If it pans out, here’s hoping the casting for a young Loki is as excellent as Hiddleston’s original casting years ago.

Also, as an aside, make Loki’s sexuality clear in the show. Please.
