Samantha Bee Spills the Tea on “Thirsty” Kellyanne Conway’s Daily Show Interviews With Jimmy Kimmel
Samantha Bee stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, and showed a clip of her interviewing Kellyanne Conway back during her time at The Daily Show. At the time, Conway was just another Republican consultant, and Bee questions her about marketing the Republican party to voters. Bee asks in the clip, “It’s like the Republican party is a shit sandwich. How do you get Americans to eat the sandwich?” Conway responds with, “You dip it in chocolate and you say it has no calories.”
The Full Frontal star went on to say that Conway was a frequent guest on the late night show, saying “Even back then we had a sense that she was very thirsty.” While Bee recalled their interactions as “quite pleasant and lovely”, Conway made it clear that she was willing to do whatever it took to get on the air. Recalling her days at The Daily Show, Bee said, “It got to a point where people were like, producers were like, ‘Ugh, should we call Kellyanne? She’ll say anything that we want her to.’”
Bee also discussed Conway at a Paley Center panel year, saying “I definitely remember her showing up and saying, ‘OK, what do you want me to say? I’ll just say whatever.’ She didn’t care that much. I’m not saying it’s so different now. It might be the MO.”
Bee also discussed the state of politics in her home country of Canada, as well as her parents’ fears of her living in America. Bee’s father even bought her a bullet-proof vest, in a classic over-protective dad move. Bee has been making the interview rounds lately as part of her Emmy campaign for this season of Full Frontal, which included a sit-down interview last night with Molly Ringwald where they discussed Harvey Weinstein, #MeToo and the recent allegations against Morgan Freeman. Bee said of the seemingly endless scandals, “We’re just starting to unwind these giant twine balls of hideous sexual behavior that we’d never want other people to repeat. It’s going to be a really long period of months of muddling through and trying to figure it out and trying to find lines and trying to teach our children better. And also put Harvey Weinstein in jail.”
