Samantha Bee Calls Out Repeated Interruptions of Senator Kamala Harris in Senate Hearings

Recommended Videos

There were a lot of similarities between this week’s Senate hearing for Attorney General Jeff Sessions and previous Senate hearings surrounding the Trump administration, particularly with regard to an unwillingness to answer questions without being able to point to a legitimate reason—and some fairly faulty memories. One common thread stood out, though: the tendency to interrupt Senator Kamala Harris’s questioning.

You may even remember the first instance, as Harris’s hair flip and incredulous stare quickly circulated the Internet in gif form. You might have missed the second one if Sessions’ stalling bored you to sleep, but not only was Harris again the only senator to be interrupted, but it was again Senator John McCain who did so. And McCain isn’t even the chairman! He’s just so annoyed at Harris for trying to move things along at a reasonable pace and ask actual questions (that aren’t about movies) that he can’t help butting in and telling the actual chair to get her to act more to his liking.

We did learn during the former FBI Director Comey’s hearing that McCain likes to take it slow, rambling, and nonsensical, which must have been what bugged him about Harris’s quick, focused, and intelligent questioning. Surely, there couldn’t be any other reason that he was put off by the skill and relentlessness of only the second black woman ever to be elected to the United States Senate …
