Saoirse Ronan To Be Matt Smith’s Companion in How to Catch a Monster

Kind of. Maybe. No, probably not. I just wanted to make a Doctor Who reference.
Saoirse Ronan has joined Matt Smith, Christina Hendricks, Eva Mendes, and Ben Mendelsohn in How to Catch a Monster, the directorial debut of Ryan Gosling. As of yet we don’t know who any of those people will play aside from Hendricks, who takes the starring role as Billy, a single mother of two who must travel with her son Bones through “a macabre and dark [underwater] fantasy world.” Smith is said to be the male lead, who presumably is someone other than the teenage son. He looks young, but not that young.
How to Catch a Monster is filming this spring, which looks like it could fit nicely into a gap in Ronan’s rather busy schedule. She has three films in post-production and two that probably won’t start filming for a while. (Including one where she’s Mary Queen of Scots, yay!) She’s in The Grand Budapest Hotel, which is filming now, but seeing as that’s a Wes Anderson movie with about 12 thousand cast members (no, but seriously, check out the cast, it’s nuts) she might not be shooting for very many days.
So she could have the time for a big role in Monster, basically. I approve. Because if there’s any actress I could imagine playing some sort of fantastical creature in an noirish underwater city it’s Saoirse Ronan. There’s just something ethereal about her as an actress, and I want her to go full-on creepy with one of her roles. Make it happen, Gosling.
