We've got issues. Lots of issues.

Welcome to Pull It Together, where the goal is to narrow the field by showing you titles you shouldn’t overlook. It isn’t about what’s on my pull list, it’s about what could be on yours!

Let’s talk about something new and important to Pull It Together: pre-order deadlines! Because a monthly comic book’s success is measured solely by retailer orders, pre-ordering your comics is a vital part of making sure that the titles you like stay in publication. If you don’t believe me, maybe you’ll take Kelly Sue DeConnick’s word for it. Comic book shops put in their orders to Diamond Distributors every month on the 18th, two months in advance of when those books will actually come out. That means that next Monday, August 18th, is the deadline for all of the books that’ll come out in October. And it’s also your deadline for lending your support to new titles or collections or creative teams in the most efficient way.

That’s quite a ways away to think about, but don’t fear! That’s what Pull It Together is for. This October features the beginning of several new miniseries, as well as new titles and creative teams that should be right up your alley. Becky Cloonan and Karl Kerschl’s Gotham Academy will be starting up, as well as Cameron Stewart and Babs Tarr’s Batgirl, both of which promise to be a new tonal and stylistic take on Gotham City, something that’s been a long time coming. Kate Leth will be writing two separate miniseries, based on Fraggle Rock and Edward Scissorhands, so if you enjoy her writing or those settings, you should definitely tell your comic shop. And wake up, Sleepyheads: October is also when the Sleepy Hollow comic starts running, so don’t miss out.

There are also three trade paperback collections due in October that cover the beginnings of brand new series that you might want to give a try. First, there’s the first collection of the renumbered Captain Marvel, i.e., the one where she has space adventures. Then we continue on to She-Hulk Vol. 1, the first trade collection of Charles Soule and Javier Pulido’s run on the character. And finally there’s Harley Quinn Vol. 1, the first collection of Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti’s series.

So get to your comic shop and get your October preorder on! And in the meantime, check out this week’s titles. Each comic in the following gallery is listed with its official teaser summary (in italics) and my own commentary (below that) when applicable.

Are you looking forward to picking up a title this week that isn’t in Pull It Together? Mention it in the comments and I’ll take a look! Just remember: PIT only covers one week at a time, not one month! If it’s not coming out this week, it won’t be on the list.

Susana Polo thought she'd get her Creative Writing degree from Oberlin, work a crap job, and fake it until she made it into comics. Instead she stumbled into a great job: founding and running this very website (she's Editor at Large now, very fancy). She's spoken at events like Geek Girl Con, New York Comic Con, and Comic Book City Con, wants to get a Batwoman tattoo and write a graphic novel, and one of her canine teeth is in backwards.
