Surprise! Shadow of the Eternals Kickstarter Didn’t Make Its Goal… Again
Yeah, we're not surprised.
Last month we told you that Precursor Games had once again set up a Kickstarter for their Eternal Darkness follow-up, Shadow of the Eternals. Now, for the third time, they’ve come up short of their goal. Maybe take the hint and sit the next round out, guys.
While Precursor made a lot of changes to their company and of their game — promising to lose the episodic structure, hiring Metal Gear Solid‘s David Hayter, divorcing themselves from alleged child pornography-haver Kenneth McCullogh, making Denis Dyack stand in a corner and pretend to be a potted plant or whatever while the Silicon Knights legal battle raged on — but somehow, none of that convinced anybody to pony up the $750,000 they were asking for. Odd, that. Instead they only reached $323,950 with the hep of 5,932 backers.
In an update on the Kickstarter campaign website, the company maintains that they’re not down and out yet:
We here at Precursor Games would like to thank everyone who were involved in supporting, developing and promoting Shadow of the Eternals and its Kickstarter campaign. […]
After we take a one week break, we will be upgrading the forum software to help improve the experience of our community. The Order forums will remain open for all those who have pledged on the Kickstarter for the next few weeks.
It is unfortunate that we were unable to crowd-fund this project at this time, but we have not given up. We intend to pursue other avenues with the ultimate goal of having our games come to fruition.
Hey, Precursor? This is the third time you’ve tried this, and it hasn’t worked out very well for anybody. Maybe you need a little bit longer than a week to sort yourselves out. Take what’s probably a much-needed break and let the dust settle a little bit, you know? I’m sure your forum community will understand.
