Sherlock Holmes 2: Still Loose Adaptation, Still As Bromantic As You Can Get
Bloody Good Fun
There are two things I’ll say about the Sherlock Holmes movies. While they don’t draw as many of their ideas from our cultural idea of who Holmes is rather than the actual facts of the novels that he appeared in as others have… they’re still an “update” of Holmes rather than a faithful adaptation that are much more about action than mystery solving. Mystery solving only happens if it is sufficiently ACTION-Y and must be accompanied by many quick cuts, dramatic voiceover, and changing camera speeds. They also really, really like their bromance, and those two things are not necessarily related to each other.
Oh, and watching them is ridiculously fun. So I guess that’s three things.
