Wow, it has been a long time since we’ve been able to write something like this, but it’s finally happened: Sherlock season four is really coming, as evidenced by the fact that it now has a premiere date. Both in the U.S. on PBS and in the UK, Sherlock season four will premiere on January 1, 2017.
“The Six Thatchers” will be the first episode to air, kicking off the first full season since the season 3 finale on (in the UK) January 12, 2014. Yeah, it’s been that long. In the meantime, all we’ve gotten was the “Abominable Bride” special on January 1 of last year, which … had its ups and downs.
That’s not to say there’s been no other Sherlock news recently, though. Other news has been a bit more of a bummer, though, with the fourth season also possibly being the last. As Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss said, “Whatever else we do, wherever we all go, all roads lead back to Baker Street, and it always feels like coming home. Ghosts of the past are rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson and terror and tragedy are looming. This is the story we’ve been telling from the beginning and it’s about to reach its climax.”
