Oscar-Nominated Short We Can’t Live Without Cosmos Available Online
The Oscar-nominated animation short by Russian filmmaker Konstantin Bronzit, We Can’t Live Without Cosmos, is now watchable online. The short centers on two astronauts preparing for a space mission, from their training and preparation to take-off and beyond. Bronzit previously said about the short:
My film is not about the space program, and it is just partly about friendship. It’s about loneliness. About the very close links between people. About our inability to live in human society without exiting, sometimes, to a different area, an open space where we can really breathe deeply and freely.
The animation is great, I was very invested in the two astronauts, and I definitely recommend watching the short. That being said, even if the story centers around two men in Russia, it’s a bit demoralizing that there wasn’t a single woman or POC at a computer or in a crowd of engineers. Thoughts?
