Rosalina Is the First New Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS Character Announced Since June, She Looks… Interesting
They had us at Mega Man, but this is certainly a welcome surprise.
The Smash Bros. official website has been updated daily for the last few months, and a few cast members have been announced on it since the reveal of Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and Mega Man, who is a huge draw for the game all by himself. All of the rest have been returning characters, though, until yesterday.
Yes, we finally got a glimpse of a brand new character to the series, and she certainly looks like she’ll add something new. We’ll admit that Rosalina (from the Mario Galaxy games) herself doesn’t really seem like an exciting inclusion to the roster at first. When you see her in action in the video, though, it’s clear that Masahiro Sakurai’s team working on the game took that into account and made her a little different from the rest of the fighters.
From what we can tell, it looks like she’s kind of a hybrid between the Ice Climbers, who are controlled simultaneously by one player, and Captain Olimar, whose Pikmin run can walk around the playing field and take damage without him. It’s hard to tell without a controller in your hands exactly how Rosalina controls the little Luma character she’s brought with her while fighting, but there seems to be a system in place for them to fight together or separately.
Fans of Mario Galaxy are no doubt excited just to see her appear, but if there’s anything aside from Mega Man that is now making us really want to get our hands on this game, it’s just to see for ourselves exactly how Rosalina works. 2014 can’t come fast enough.
