So Actual Working Hoverboards Are Real? As Long As Magnets?
Back to the Present is more like it, amiright?
So maybe it’s not exactly like the Marty McFly hoverboard of our dreams, but it’s a step in the right direction.
The Hendo is inventor Greg Henderson’s $10,000 hoverboard prototype, and right now it’s more of a concept than anything. The board is magnetized, and only works in rooms lined with a small set of metals, but it totally does work, and if that’s cool enough to get investors excited about the idea of a fully-functioning hoverboard, then I’m in.
Henderson (who co-founded Hendo’s parent company, Arx Pax, with his wife Jill) thinks the tech behind the protoboard could also be used in wider applications, like lifting buildings to keep them from being destroyed in case of hurricane or earthquake (!), or could operate high-speed trains like you’re a tribute traveling to the Capitol for the Hunger Games.
Of course the Hendo (like everything else in the world lately, it seems) is available for you to back on Kickstarter, where it’s already raised almost half of its $250,000 goal in just 17 hours.
