“Mission complete, Houston,” said mission commander Christopher Ferguson, radioing in as the Space Shuttle Atlantis touched down at 5:57 this morning at Kennedy Space Center’s runway. “After serving the world for over 30 years, the space shuttle has earned its place in history. It’s come to a final stop.” The landing marks the 135th and final mission of NASA’s space shuttle program, which has lasted for 30 years. As Ferguson went on to say, “this space shuttle’s changed how we view the world, and it’s changed the way we view the universe. There are a lot of emotions today, but one thing’s indisputable: America’s not going to stop exploring.” Watch the landing video below.
