New Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer Reveals How Iron Man Affects the Plot—and More of It
♫Spoiler-Man, Spoiler-Man♫ ...
We already knew Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man would be a part of Spider-Man: Homecoming, but it was unclear if he’d play more of a cameo role or a larger part of the plot. Today’s brand new trailer answers that and reveals what feels like some significant plot detail in the process.

Good. Then you now know that full boat scene from the previous trailer features Stark giving Peter an assist and then berating him for the whole thing becoming such a mess, fitting right in with where we last left the Avengers. He also tells Peter that he shouldn’t have the high-tech Spidey suit in the first place if he’s “nothing” without it, which really feels like Tony talking about himself and adds some depth to the mentor relationship.
Then, we see Peter fighting in his homemade costume, and it seems like we’ve got a clearer picture of his character arc of proving himself worthy alongside Marvel’s other big screen heroes. Meanwhile, there are a few more of the comedic moments that you’d expect from a joint superhero venture with Marvel—especially one with Spider-Man.
Basically, it looks like this fits perfectly into Marvel’s larger universe and puts all that to good use to further its own story.
