Marvel and Sony’s Short List for New Spider-Man Directors Is Not So Short

Too bad we already tried the one named Webb.

Deadline is reporting that Marvel and Sony may be nailing down the director of the new new Spider-Man reboot in the next few weeks, and they’ve got a few names in mind. Or more than a few. At least six of them, actually—a sinister six, if you will. Only instead of killing Spider-Man, hopefully they can save him.

They’ll be off to a good start, at least, as Deadline also mentioned the going rumor that they’ll be skipping Peter Parker’s spider bite, so we don’t have to sit through another entire film of the same origin story—probably the worst thing about Amazing Spider-Man. *Crossing all eight spider legs for this to be true.* There’s also talk that they’ll go the Harry Potter route and give Spidey one movie per year of high school.

As for the potential directors, the production houses are apparently considering Jonathan Levine (50/50 and Warm Bodies), Ted Melfi (St. Vincent), Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect); John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein (the upcoming modern take on John Hughes’ Vacation), and Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite and Don Verdean) to give their Spider-Man a John-Hughes-plus-superhero-stuff feel—and apparently that might not even be the complete list of names they’re considering.

So what do you think? Would you prefer an eye for choreography from Pitch Perfect, offbeat humor and heart from 50/50 and St. Vincent, or… you know, this:

Choose wisely, Sony.
