Those Star Fox Puppets Are Back in This New Commercial for Star Fox Zero
Remember those Star Fox puppets that showed up during Nintendo’s Star Fox Zero announcement? Well, they’re back in this trailer for the very same video game (obviously, I mean what else). What’s more, you can bet this won’t be the last time you ever see them; Nintendo’s really good at knowing how to play those nostalgia chords. The best part about this commercial is that it starts out just like how you might expect a video game commercial to sound during a Saturday morning cartoon block–speaking of, those aren’t a thing anymore are they? Anyway. I found myself rolling my eyes a bit, going “oh, Nintendo,” but then towards the end, I realized that this commercial was way more self-aware than I thought.
Shows me for judging too early, I guess, huh?
Whatever, don’t you judge me. After all that, the best part comes up: those damn Star Fox… muppets? Puppets? They’re still pretty great and, yes, it still creeps me out that they blink. That’s some uncanny valley stuff going on right there, friend.
I’m fairly cautiously optimistic about this game. Like I said, I’m glad that there’s another Star Fox game coming out, but knowing how wildly the quality of these games can vary, I think it’s a safe play to just be cautious going forward. We’ll know what to think real soon, anyhow; the game comes out on April 22nd, not far from now at all. This all leads me to the million dollar question: how long until we get a Star Fox puppet-based show, huh? The people want answers, Nintendo.
