‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Season 3 First Look Proves Pointy Ears and Yak Hair Eyebrows Are HOT
"Torrid erroticism" at its finest.
It seems as if the U.S.S. Enterprise crew is getting back to work and hornier than ever.
With the first look at the heavily anticipated Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 dropping at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 showcasing Christine Chapel’s impeccable science skills transforming four crew into somehow sexier versions of themselves, Vulcan Cowboy Captain Pike is the proof in the I’danian spice pudding that the Vulcan devotees have always been right: POINTY EARS AND YAK HAIR EYEBROWS SO HOT (other Vulcanears, did anyone else feel called out by this teaser?)
Taking place after Spock (Ethan Peck) and Captain Pike (Anson Mount) took flight in Star Trek: Discovery, it has become a fan-favorite among Trekkies because it has proved itself time and time again with fantastic storylines and characters as it builds towards the storyline of Star Trek: The Original Series. And Trekkies, it looks like we’re in for another stellar season, with the clip showing that those “torridly erotic” letters from fans on Spock’s sexiness aren’t just about subverting masculine norms or Leonard Nimoy’s good looks: it’s about the distinct Vulcan look.
Regarding the footage above, Peck added that the actors created their own Vulcan personalities. “It turned out beautifully,” he said.
What we know about the new season is very limited. Season 2 of the series ended on one hell of a cliffhanger, leaving many unanswered questions about the fate of the Enterprise crew after they came into contact with the Gorn in the finale. Though we still have much to wonder about Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, the SDCC 2024 panel provided a few answers, like confirming the survival of most of the crew.
What is next for the crew?
The end of season 2 left us wondering what is happening with the Enterprise crew. With La’an (Christina Chong) and Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia) separated the rest of the crew and Pike having to make a decision that could devastate everyone, we didn’t know what the future held for one of the sexiest Trek crews ever. Mixed with Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) going off and leaving Spock behind after everything that has happened between them, the end of season 2 was filled with tension between everyone.
With the Strange New Worlds season 3 first look clip (which, based on information from concurrently released images, appears to be from episode 308) showing glimpses of both characters working at their respective bridge stations, everyone’s fate has been resolved except for Pike’s paramore Captain Batel (Melanie Scrofano). As we head into season 3, we can expect more answers to be revealed.
Who is part of the bridge?
Other than the cast previously listed, Strange New Worlds season 3 will see the return of Rebecca Romijn as Una Chin-Riley, Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk, Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga, Carol Kane as Chief Engineer Pelia, and Martin Quinn as Montgomery Scott, a Star Trek legacy character who was officially introduced to the cast in the final moments of season 2! I can’t wait to see how Quinn grows as Scotty!
At the SDCC 2024 panel, more romance was promised. It was announced during the panel that in Strange New Worlds season 3, Cillian O’Sullivan had been cast as Dr. Roger Korby, Chapel’s future mentor and hubby-to-be, introduced in Star Trek: The Original Series and portrayed by Michael Strong. Speaking about O’Sullivan joining the cast as Korby, Akiva Goldsman said, “We’re constantly trying to evolve what we secretly call ‘Love Stories in Space.'”
Slowly but surely, we are building out the original series cast as we get further into Strange New Worlds, and it’s exciting to see how the show reimagines the characters we know and love.
When are we going to return to the Enterprise?
Season 3, announced in March 2023 before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, leading to delays, is now in its final stages of production. What that means for when we will return to the Enterprise, we don’t yet know. Although it was initially slated to air in 2024, it was confirmed at SDCC 2024 that the new season will debut in 2025.
Until we know more, we at least know that Strange New Worlds is coming back to us!
